Tips on conveyancing when buying a property

For leasehold properties e.g. flats, be sure your solicitor:
  • Sees a copy of the lease
  • Sees any regulations made by the landlord or management company
  • If there is a management company, sees its memorandum and articles of association
  • Sees the buildings insurance policy and recent payment receipts
For all properties:
  • Chase your solicitor regularly
  • Remind them of the obvious (they can forget e.g. parking spaces)
  • Avoid completing on a Friday (if there any issues causing delay, you won't complete until Monday)
